Mood Walks Volunteer

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Sandra Bell, Peer Support Specialist

PURPOSE OF POSITION: To encourage and support the mental and physical health of participants by exposing them to the healing effects of nature, being physically active and engaging with the community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • attend Mood Walks regularly
  • help to make members of the Mood Walks , especially new members, feel welcome
  • answer questions that participants might have about other H.O.P.E. programs
  • track the number of participants in order for HOPE to record statistics
  • refer any concerns for follow-up

HOURS/LOCATION:

  • Mood Walks meets at 20 Darling St. Brantford, ON.
  • Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. to approx. 12:30 p.m. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • current or former user of mental health services
  • friendly and welcoming
  • non-judgemental and respectful approach to others
  • able to maintain responsible boundaries with others
  • satisfactory police record check
  • some knowledge of Brantford’s trail system an asset

TRAINING PROVIDED:

Orientation to Mood Walks, H.O.P.E.’s programs and Safe hiker guidelines.

Possibility of becoming a Certified Hike Leader through Hike Ontario
